This week’s episode had plenty of kick-ass action and excitement and I’m loving every second of it. I went back and watched it three times. Naofumi was like a blazing fire the entire time and FINALLY we got to see him put the curse shield into action. It was a mouthwatering moment. I’m left parched after this episode.

Japanese Original Title: 災厄、再び
Plot
The second wave has come. Standing alongside Naofumi is Knight Ake and his small party. Worried for the other heroes, Naofumi sets out to aid them, only to find them having trouble in defeating a ship crawling with monsters. The others are incompetent to source out the big boss and so Naofumi and the others make quick work of locating the big boss, the soul eater. Despite everyone’s efforts it comes down to Naofumi’s curse shield to save the day. Amongst the situation, a mysterious woman unveils herself only seeking the ‘true hero’, pointing to only Naofumi.
Episode Highlights
The Iron Maiden: We’re just going to address the elephant in the room and the best part of this episode. Naofumi has had some great highlights so far, but in this episode we saw THE BEST ONE YET!!. Secretly you all had been waiting to see Naofumi put that curse shield into action and it was worth the wait. Raphtalia at his side and channeling the zombie dragon’s seething rage, just from the massive buildup you knew you were in for an epic moment. Using the prison shield completely had my jaw dropped, and then the sky opens up and reveals this other prison with a maiden’s head on top. I rewatched the moment Naofumi’s closes his hands and crushes the soul eater 3 times. AHH this is what this series makes me live for!!
Raphtalia Dedication: Don’t think there is any possible reason you could not fall in love with Raphtalia. In the midst of Naofumi risking using the curse shield, her reflection of helplessness to not be able to do more for Naofumi rattles your heart. Truly till the end, she will be dedicated to Naofumi.
Badass Oldie: It was a warming scene to see that old lady that Naofumi had helped being up, moving and fighting the monsters.
Black Raven: I am very intrigued to know what all this means: the introduction of the ‘Glass’ character. Is it Naofumi’s newest enemy?
Incompetent Heroes: They are standing there doing nothing while Naofumi is putting his neck out. In this moment was demonstrated the true incompetent fools other heroes are. They make many mistakes and don’t think of the consequences. While I don’t believe the other heroes to be bad people, treating all of this as a ‘game’ still is incompetent in itself. They shouldn’t treat being in any parallel world as ‘it’s all a game’. Naofumi reminds the heroes that there are lives on the line and that this is real. It’s clear here who is thinking the most logically and is worthy of being deemed the ‘true hero’.

Presents: Anyone who believes Raphtalia and Filo’s new accessories from Naofumi were just to boost their stats… NO! You can’t fool us, Naofumi! You care for the girls more than you are willing to show. Still, it’s all so sweet.
Themes And Trivia
Filo Beserker: It was definitely an interesting moment, Filo became affected by the curse shield next to Naofumi and goes off into a ‘berseker’ mode. Very puzzling as to what this has to do with the curse shield and why she was only affected. Hopefully will find out.
Recognition: Naofumi is not the perfect hero you get out of fairytales. Arrogant, bit pig-headed, not the easiest to get along with, less if you are not on his good side. Time and time again throughout the series he’s proved himself despite being dubbed as the weakest hero. Naofumi has not let his hatred for all that has befallen him blind him from what he was sent to this world to do. Naofumi has never lost sight of his quest, even if some of his actions (taking in a slave, treatment to Raphtalia in the beginning) weren’t appealing. How Naofumi has acted was all in the name of survival at first but through the course of the story, he has grown exponentially.
The moment that mysterious woman ‘Glass’ only wished to associate herself with ‘true hero’ and gave Naofumi some form of recognition in a weird sense, I felt it was rightly deserved to spotlight Naofumi and show who is the Alpha in this hero pack.

The Raven Sees All
Quite the action-packed episode. We got to see Naofumi’s curse shield in action. I think all the heroes were dumbfounded that our Naofumi is no weakling. The plot is beginning to thicken now as the next episode I feel will be an interesting one, especially with ‘Glass’.
