Super Mario Maker 2’s release is nearly here. On June 28th, the creative floodgates will open, with hundreds of thousands of brand new Super Mario Bros. levels to conquer. When a date was finally announced and retailers listed pre-orders for the title, the North American audience was soon envious of other countries’ launch bonuses that would be included with orders.

Nintendo UK is offering a limited edition version of the game — adding a steelbook case, SMM2 themed stylus, drafting book, and pencils. Japan is also offering the stylus as a pre-order bonus that left us North American fans wondering if we would get our own bonus.

Technically, we are getting some themed bonus swag. Leaking a few days early, Target’s weekly ad lists Super Mario Maker 2 and its “steelbook” bonus — a lunch box tin.

Wario64 grabbing the digital ad screenshot, we discovered that customers who purchase their copies at Target can also receive this lunch box (while supplies last). The tin is cute, but when comparing it against UK and Japan’s bonus items, it falls a bit flat. Unless there’s a warp pipe thermos inside and/or the coveted stylus, this bonus item might only appeal to certain audiences.
Fingers crossed that other retailers will announce competing “free item with purchase” promos this Sunday — but with a week to go for Super Mario Maker 2’s release, it isn’t likely it’ll be that cute stylus.
