I've updated to the most recent version. When I press play, it loads for about 5 seconds and a message comes up saying:
Error 🙁 Unable to locate the Java runtime
When I click “show more details”, it comes up with the following:
Unable to locate the Java runtime. Error details: The system cannot find the path specified Filename on disk: javaw.exe Path: C:/UsersmynameDesktop
untimejre-x641.8.0_25injavaw.exe Exists: false
This file does exist, but not in the specified path. I have tried googling this multiple times, but still no avail. I have tried changing the path several times through the environmental variables in the control panel.

Please help me. What could I be missing? What could I change the path to?

Might want to try reinstalling the launcher, since it's looking for that file in the wrong location. By default, that file is supposed to be in;
C:Program Files (x86)Minecraft
untimejre-x641.8.0_25in I'm not entirely sure if this is actually the cause of your issue, but it's worth a shot at least. When the launcher asks you which directory you want to install it to, just leave it as the default.

I have reinstalled it many times, both leaving it on the default location and changing it around, but thank you.

New launcher? Edit profile, click advanced settings, enable JVM path option and select the correct location. On mobile so steps might not be exact.

I would, but I can't seem to find edit profile in this new launcher. It looks like this for me.
