Barapullah flyover named after Baba Banda Singh Bahadur

The Delhi Government today decided to rename the Barapullah flyover as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Setu marking 300th year of martyrdom of Sikh warrior Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.
A proposal in this regard was passed during a board meeting attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia here. The move assumes significance ahead of Punjab Assembly elections next year.
“Barapullah flyover has been renamed after Baba Banda Singh Bahadur. It is the third centenary of his martyrdom. The board for the project passed it today as a salute to the Sikh maharaja (king) who challenged the Mughals in Punjab,” Rajouri Garden MLA Jarnail Singh told The Tribune.
Singh had recently taken up the issue with the Chief Minister who had received a Nagar Kirtan procession observed to commemorate the 300 years of Bahadur’s martyrdom on May 28 in Mehrauli where Bahadur was martyred along with over 700 other Sikh soldiers in 1716. The Nagar Kirtan started from Punjab. Jarnail Singh had been demanding that a flyover be dedicated to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.
