The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday sought a status report from Punjab Police on Sikh preacher Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale’s petition seeking transfer of probe into the May 17 attack on him to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Just about a fortnight after being attacked, Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale on Thursday moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court for probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation
Describing himself as “a victim of grave persecution at the hands of the ruling government”, Dhadrianwale and another petitioner alleged the government was intentionally aiding culprits wanting to kill him
Taking up the petition, the Bench of Justice Fateh Deep Singh put the State of Punjab and the CBI on notice. The case will now come up for hearing after summer vacations on July 7
The petitioners contended the ruling government and the police were acting at the behest of Harnam Singh Dhumma
They alleged (Dhumma) had “very good relations with the Deputy Chief Minister who also happens to be the Home Minister”
The petitioners alleged Dhumma was openly accepting the blame forthe attacks
