“Ï saved many Sikhs during the 1984 riots,” former Union Minister Jagdish Tytler accused of Sikh Genocide 1984.
“The CBI has given me the clean chit four times, of which two were during the tenure of the BJP-led Central Government in which the Akalis were a partner,” he said.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar blasted Congress leader Jagdish Tytler for pleading innocence in the 1984 Sikh Genocide case and claiming that he saved many Sikhs in Delhi by giving them shelter after the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi.
Tytler had made this claim in a letter to Union minister for food processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Makkar issued a statement on telling Tytler that “baseless claims cannot prove you innocent, when everyone knows who instigated mobs against Sikhs”. “By claiming innocence, you (Tytler) are trying to hide your guilt. No one is going to believe you,” he said.
